Falcate Orangetip
Anthocharis midea
The Falcate Orangetip (Anthocharis midea) is an early season white of parts of the eastern United States. Its range extends into central Texas, which is where the first 2 shots on this page were taken in Travis Co., in March, 2010, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash. This species is a very erratic flier and seldom lands, so although I have seen the species fairly often in early spring, these are the only 2 shots I've been able to take of it.
