The Boat-billed Flycatcher (Megarynchus pitangua) is a widespread tropical resident bird from northeastern Mexico southward to parts of Argentina. It is superficially similar in appearance to the Great Kiskadee but has an olive rather than a rufous back and a noticeably larger and longer bill. The Boat-billed Flycatcher in the top 5 shots shown here was at and near a nest in southern Tamaulipas, Mexico, in May, 2007. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender. | ![]() |
