The Silvery Checkerspot (Chlosyne nycteis) is a widespread butterfly of the eastern half of the United States. The first three shots on this page were taken in March, 2011, in the Davy Crockett National Forest, Houston Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash. Thanks to Chuck Sexton and Martin Reid for confirming this identification.
The worn and faded Silvery Checkerspot on the right is visually quite a contrast to the individual in the next image. Both these shots were taken in the Ouachita National Forest, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma, in May, 2011. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and a Sigma 50-500mm lens and Canon 580 flash.
