Erpetogomphus designatus
The Eastern Ringtail (Erpetogomphus designatus) is a fairly common clubtail of the southeast occurring west regularly as far as New Mexico and Colorado. These digital captures were shot with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 300 mm F4 L IS lens with a 1.4X extender and 550 EX flash. The next shot, of a pair of Eastern Ringtails in copulation, was also taken in Austin, but in June, 2004, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and the same lens as this shot. For a look at a Mexican form of this species, go to page 2 here.
