Anartia jatrophae
The White Peacock (Anartia jatrophae) is a widespread tropical butterfly which often occurs in south Texas and Florida and wanders northward occasionally. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender near Rio Grande City, Starr Co., Texas, in November, 2003.
The White Peacocks in the next 2 shots were on Sanibel Island, Lee Co., Florida, in December, 2007. These 2 shots were taken with a Canon EOS 40D and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender.
The White Peacock shown here was at Santa Ana N.W.R., Hidalgo Co., Texas, in October, 2008. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and Canon 580 flash.
The next 3 shots of White Peacock were taken in Victoria Co., Texas, in November, 2009, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and an EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and 580 flash. The 3rd shot down shows one that has a gap in the wing, possibly due to a bird attack.
