Short-billed Dowitcher
Limnodromus griseus
The Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus) breeds across parts of the northern latitudes of Canada as well as parts of Alaska. It winters on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States as well as all the Gulf of Mexico region. Some percentage of the population winters south past the equator. The shot here shows a Short-billed Dowitcher in the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador in July, 2007. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS lens.
The alternate (breeding) plumaged Short-billed Dowitchers in the next 5 images were on South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in May, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
The basic (winter) plumaged Short-billed Dowitchers in the next six images were at South Padre Island, Cameron Co., Texas, in December, 2010. These shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV and an EF 800mm F/5.6 L IS lens.
