The Black-headed Gull (Larus ridibundus) is a widespread and common Palearctic species ranging across most of northern Europe, Scandinavia and into Siberia. It gets southward to the Mediterranean and wanders to North America regularly where it is still a rarity in most areas. The shots on this page were taken in August, 2002, on the north Spanish coast at Santander, Cantabria, Spain. The photo equipment was a Canon EOS 1V and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Provia. The first two shots show adults molting into basic plumage and the bottom shots show immature birds molting into 1st basic plumage. | |
